Things to Do For Your Pullman WA School District Spring Break!!!!

No School for  March 30-April 3rd!  YAHOO!!!  Spring Break is finally here!  So instead of our usual lunch menu I thought I would put together a few things you might want to do during your well deserved spring break! 

 

Palouse Discovery Center is a great way for kids to learn and have fun all at the same time.  Check out their calendar and see that there is lots going on and it seems that eggs are the theme.  It will be Easter before you know it!

 

 

A trip to the Pullman Acquatic Center is also a great way to spend an afternoon.  This indoor swimming facility is always a blast regardless of what it's doing outside!

 

 

On a nice day maybe a trip to one of our local Pullman parks  for a game of basketball or tennis would fit the bill. Or how about a long bike ride or walk along the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail that connects Pullman Washington to our neighboring university town, Moscow Idaho.  The fresh air will do you good!

 

 

And don't forget a matinee in our Pullman Village CenterTheaters.  That is a guaranteed fun afternoon regardless of what the weather may do!

And for you girls, nothing beats a day at the Palouse Mall for some shopping.  I know it was always my favorite...and truth be told, still is!!!!

Palouse Habitat For Humanity Fund Raiser, Pullman WA ~ Beans & Jeans

Beans and Jeans is the theme of the Palouse Habitat for Humanity benefit fund raiser scheduled for April 17, 2009.   The picnic style atmosphere of this relaxed get together is sure to provide lots of fun and an opportunity to support a very worthwhile cause. 

The Palouse Habitat for Humanity has recently finished a home in Genesee Idaho.  That is so cool!!!  The next build is to take place in Palouse Washington and we are hoping to begin this Summer!  Our ability to build this home is dependent upon raising funds locally, so please come out and show your support!!! 

There will be live music from Hog Heaven Big Band.  Dinner and a silent auction will also be a part of the evenings festivities that will take place in the SEL event center from 6PM to 11PM.  What a great way to unwind on a Friday night and know that you are helping those who need a helping hand!   Tickets are $40 and are available at the following locations:

Washington State University Mom's Weekend ~ April 4, 2009

As a Realtor serving the Pullman Washington area, I am often asked by relocating clients about our community.  Pullman is host to Washington State University, and we enjoy many events because our town hosts WSU. One of my favorites is coming up April 4th when Washington State University hosts its Annual Mom's Weekend.  Mom's will pour into our community for a weekend absolutely packed with events!

This year's performance Huey Lewis and the News . They will be performing live during Mom's Weekend on April 4 at 8:00 PM at the Beasley Coliseum. 

There will be special treats at Ferdinands too!Ferdinands is our local WSU Creamery famous for our Cougar Cheese and gourmet ice cream!  Word is out that there will be lots of treats especially prepared for Mom's including Lemon Chiffon ice cream...mmm...or maybe you would prefer a brownie sundae?!

Induge guilt free because you can head over to take in one of the free fitness and dance classes at the Student Recreational Center.  So no worries...

Or maybe some mini-golf with Mom might be more to your liking.  You can golf from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM at the Airway Hills Golf Range and Putting Course on the Airport Road.  Tickets are $15 per pair.

One of my personal favorites has got to be the Macy's Shoe Sale at the Palouse Mall which is 15 minutes away in nearby Moscow Idaho.   Who can resist their rows and rows of shoes at a great price?  I know I can't!  Head over early for a great selection. 

There is also a wonderful Spring Arts and Crafts show at the Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum with loads of crafts, jewelry, arts and handmade soaps many of which are from local vendors.  It is loaded with tons and tons of gift ideas! 

And what a great way to wind down than to enjoy the 25th Annual Winefest from 8:00PM to 10:00PM at the Schweitzer Event Center.  There you can sample fine Pacific Northwest Wines and sample some of the School of Hospitality Business Management Catering specialties.  There will also be live music and a silent auction.  Tickets are $35.00 to attend (must be 21 or older) and transportation from the Old Bookie to the event will be provided.

Pullman WA Real Estate ~ Selling Your Home Part 3

Spring has sprung and the market is kicking in to full swing! In this three part series we have been looking at ways for you to get your home looking its very best to impress those buyers!

First, we looked at ways to increase curb appeal so your home makes a great first impression!   We want those potential buyers to WANT to come in, not drive by!   

Next, we looked at tips to get your home in tip top shape for the market  by getting those pesky repairs done, de-personalizing and de-cluttering the space.  We want a great backdrop for the story that is about to be told...selling your home!   

Here are few final tips that will help you get your home market ready! 

Light the stage! Make sure your lighting is adequate. You want a nice well lit backdrop to show off your home. And don't forget your windows! Windows are a wonderful, natural source of light.   So make the most of them! Keep them clean inside and out! Let the light shine in and help sell your home! And don't neglect your window treatments. A fresh pair of curtains on a decorative rod can really update a room!

Organize! "What do my closets say about me?" Neatly organized closets and kitchen cupboards are a positive reflection on how I take treat my things, including my home! An organized and tidy closet tells your buyer that you have that valuable commodity called STORAGE!!!

Look Down! Take some time to get your floors in shape! If you have wood floors, check out all the products they have to make them look new again. Carpeting most likely requires a professional cleaning to look its best. And don't forget to give vinyl, tile and laminate flooring a good scrubbing. Do what it takes to make them SHINE!

The kitchen and appliances should sparkle! The kitchen is the heart of the home and the heart of the kitchen has got to be the appliances. And do get everything off the counter tops you possibly can so they can help sell your home. A simple bowl with fresh fruit or flowers will say all you need to! When a buyer walk into your kitchen, you want it absolutely spotless so they can envision their family gathering around as family meals are prepared...or maybe ENVISIONING THEIR HOUSE WARMING PARTY!! Now you are talking!

And PLEASE don't forget the bathroom! No yuk factors here! Take a good hard look at your bathroom and make it shine. Make sure your shower/tub sparkles. Replace any dingy caulk. Put some elbow grease into the tile work. Make fixtures and chrome work sparkle! Do please keep your toilet lid down and extra toilet rolls of paper out of sight! And a new shower curtain and fresh towels displayed neatly make a great impression!

Spring Break For Washington State University- Pullman WA

Spring is around the corner, but the weather sure feels far from Spring for us today in Pullman Washington.  On Monday the 9th we had quite the storm!  Approximately 6 inches of snow fell followed by a plunge in the temperatures.  It got pretty cold last night.  I woke up to 6 degrees!  BRRR....It is still only 24 degrees and it is 1:00. 

As I looked out my kitchen window this morning I saw a robin on a  vine all surrounded with snow.  It was a beautiful sight and somehow so fitting of our straddle between Winter and Spring.  I tried to take a picture, but the little robin saw me and took flight.

 

So you are probably wondering, what does this all have to do with Spring?  Well, Washington State University Spring Break begins on March 16th through the 20th!  And  kind of fitting this year with March 20th being the official beginning of Spring!  All the students are madly getting those final assignments done and get packed for Spring Break!  Spring Break is a time for the students to head off to tropical destinations or head home for some well earned down time with family and friends.  My family has a student based salon in the heart of WSU and they have been packed with students getting those last minute highlights, cuts and tans.  I know of a few students who are heading to warm destinations...and Mexico seems to be one of the favorites.  Oh, how I envy them! 

For the rest of us "locals" in Pullman, we are just hoping the snow will melt and we can enjoy some spring time activities, whether some early gardening, a nice walk outside or maybe a little get away.  I know I am looking forward to a day of shopping and my husband is looking forward to some fishing.   Let's just hope the weather channel is right and we enjoy some beautiful fifty degree days. It will seem like the tropics compared to last night!  So please, THINK SPRING!  THINK WARM!

Spring + Palouse Empire Home and Garden Show = Inspiration For Your Pullman WA or Moscow ID Home!

Spring is around the corner and so is the time to get your home in shape!  In today's market it is more important than ever to spruce up your home in preparation to put your home on the market. Buyer's are looking for good buys and homes that say "Buy Me." 

 

Here is a great idea for you!  On March 14th & 15th the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome will host the 10th annual Palouse Empire Home and Garden Expo.  What a great way to get lots of ideas all under one roof!

 

Approximately 100 area businesses will set up their wares, and many of these exhibitors will be giving away thousands of dollars of services and goods!    You gotta like that!   Local restaurants and caters will also be there to provide food and refreshment for the weary!  So you can grab a bite to each and shop till you drop!

Admission is free for children under 12 when with a parent and $2.00 for adults.  What a bargain!  For additional information check out their website at www.PalouseExpo.com.  The EXPO is producted by local radio stations KHTR Border 104 and KQQQ NewsTalk 1150 in conjunction with the University of Idaho Kibbie Dome.

There are so many different booths and so many knowledgeable folks to provide information for everything to do with home and garden.  Ah, the garden!  My personal favorite, especially at this time of the year when my fingers are just itching to get down and dirty in the garden!  For me, there is nothing like watching the spring flowers bloom!!!  It is so uplifting!   I guess until the garden show these pictures of spring pictures will have to do!
