Come join us and be the first to see the 2009 National Lentil Festival poster featuring this now Palouse famous legume.  It will be a fun night whereby you can sample Washington wines and meet the artist of this year's poster.  Along with wonderful Washington wines, you can also enjoy wonderful appetizers and take in the beauty of the Old Post Office too!  Posters and T-shirts will also be available.  Tickets are $30.  If you plan to attend the Pullman Chamber of Commerce asks that you RSVP by May 22.

Rock Lake - A Day of R&R For Lori Cofer, REALTOR ~ Pullman Washington

It is important we keep our lives in balance.  I love what I do..in fact I would say I am a workacholic  workafrolic!  But we all need some R&R to keep everything in perspective.  So... it was a beautiful day here in Pullman Washington....topped out at around 73 degrees. Who could resist?!!!  

Fortunately for me, my hubby grabbed the portable BBQ, a lawn chair and his fishing gear and took me to his new favorite place.  It is a private park on the edge of Rock Lake.  Absolutely beautiful!!   There is a private little park complete with picnic benches, BBQ pits and a dock!   The owners of this little piece of heaven were gracious enough to tell my hubby that he was welcome anytime, and he thought today was the perfect day to surprise me!  Boy was he right!!!   It was a bit of heaven on earth!!!

Even the drive was fantastic as it is so unique to go from the rolling hills of the Palouse with its fertile farm fields, to the strong jutting basalt that surrounds the lake!  Rock Lake is about one hour north of Pullman Washington,  and it was amazing to see the transition in the landscape as we traveled.    We saw tons of wildlife all around the lake including turkeys, deer, geese and ducks.  We could hear the turkeys calling and were fortunate to see one!  I also saw two deer who patiently let me take their picture!  And being the Realtor I am, I also marveled at a wonderful round barn along the highway! 

As I lay on the lawn chair relaxing the cares of this world just floated away. Sometimes you need to just stop and let your peace return to you. That is what R& R is all about!   Here are just a few pictures of the day.  Hope you enjoy!  PS...the one on the bottom kind of says it all!!!!

Overhanging Vegetation Pruning Weekend in Pullman WA

The City of Pullman Washington is providing the opportunity for residents to get rid of those pesky overhanging branches over sidewalks and streets April 10th-12th, 2009 

Pruning is such a chore only to be matched by what to do with all those branches.  I know I have found myself trimming branches only to find I didn't know what to do with all those branches!

But, thanks to the city of Pullman there will be dumpsters for you to discard vegetation on Military Hill, Sunnyside Hill, Pioneer Hill and College Hill.  This is a convenient service and saves you the trek out to the dump!  That gives you more time for something fun!  For locations check out www.pullman-wa.gov  So come on Pullman, let's make our town look great!

Easter is around the corner and so is Pullman Washington's annual egg hunt.  Our local egg hunt will take place Saturday, April 11th in Kruegel Park on Pioneer Hill. 

Kruegel Park is located on Dilke Street and will host this wonderful event sponsored by the City of Pullman, Pullman Kiwanis Club and many local businesses.   

This 48th annual egg hunt will begin at 10:00 AM for ages 1-4 and ages 5-9 will have their opportunity at 10:10 AM.    The little ones all running around searching for eggs is a wonderful family event that is sure to please.  And you never know, Butch the Cougar, our local WSU mascot just might put in an appearance.  So come out for a great family time!

National Arbor Day is Friday, April 10th.  Pullman Washington  will celebrate with the rest of the country by encouraging all Pullman residents to plant a tree.  From 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM you can come to the Pine Street Plaza downtown Pullman for a free seedling. 

Arbor Day has its roots in Nebraska where J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside to plant trees.  The first Arbor Day in Nebraska in 1872 was celebrated with over a million trees planted in Nebraska!                                                            Photo Courtesy of Rod Schwartz

Trees are wonderful for our environment and enrich our daily lives as they clean the air we breathe, conserve soil and water, and moderate our temperatures.  They are also wonders to behold! The welcoming buds of Spring on a deciduous tree are quickly followed by the beauty of a blanket of green leaves only to put on a glorious show of color in the fall.  And evergreens proudly display their foliage all year long. 

They are also wonderful opportunities to grow memories too.  I remember planting three trees when I was very young one day with my mother and my father.  They have now passed off the scene, but when I drive by our old home and see those three trees growing so proudly, it brings back a wonderful memory in my life that brings a smile to my face :)
