Usally when I have out of town clients, they ask me to recommend some good places to eat in our wonderful Pullman, WA community.  A very nice place to eat is at Swilly's, not far from my office at Beasley Realty.     Swilly's is located at 200 NE. Kamaiken Street in Pullman and offers great food at very reasonable prices.  

One of my favorites has to be their "Mediterranean Grilled Chicken Sandwich" with a side salad!!!!  For a look at what this great, local establishment has to offer, feel free to browse their menus.

Pullman WA ~ Taco Del Mar

When I have out of town clients, quite often they ask me to recommend some good places to eat in our great Pullman, Washington community.  When they are in the mood for Mexican, I often send them to Taco Del Mar which is just down the street from my office at Beasley Realty.  Taco Del Mar is located at 350 E. Main Street in Pullman and offers great Mexican food at very reasonable prices. 

One of my favorites is the Taco Salad!!!!  Always fresh and so delecious!!!!

Spring Break For Washington State University- Pullman WA

Spring is around the corner, but the weather sure feels far from Spring for us today in Pullman Washington.  On Monday the 9th we had quite the storm!  Approximately 6 inches of snow fell followed by a plunge in the temperatures.  It got pretty cold last night.  I woke up to 6 degrees!  BRRR....It is still only 24 degrees and it is 1:00. 

As I looked out my kitchen window this morning I saw a robin on a  vine all surrounded with snow.  It was a beautiful sight and somehow so fitting of our straddle between Winter and Spring.  I tried to take a picture, but the little robin saw me and took flight.

So you are probably wondering, what does this all have to do with Spring?  Well, Washington State University Spring Break begins on March 16th through the 20th!  And  kind of fitting this year with March 20th being the official beginning of Spring!  All the students are madly getting those final assignments done and get packed for Spring Break!  Spring Break is a time for the students to head off to tropical destinations or head home for some well earned down time with family and friends.  My family has a student based salon in the heart of WSU and they have been packed with students getting those last minute highlights, cuts and tans.  I know of a few students who are heading to warm destinations...and Mexico seems to be one of the favorites.  Oh, how I envy them! 

For the rest of us "locals" in Pullman, we are just hoping the snow will melt and we can enjoy some spring time activities, whether some early gardening, a nice walk outside or maybe a little get away.  I know I am looking forward to a day of shopping and my husband is looking forward to some fishing.   Let's just hope the weather channel is right and we enjoy some beautiful fifty degree days. It will seem like the tropics compared to last night!  So please, THINK SPRING!  THINK WARM!

Spring Ahead on March 8, 2009 and Enjoy "Swan Lake" in Pullman WA!

March 8^th will signal the beginning of daylight savings time as we "Spring Ahead" 1 hour on the clock.  Before you know it longer days will be here!!!

What better way to celebrate that extra hour of daylight savings time than to enjoy a production of "Swan Lake?"   No doubt, there will be lots of springing, leaping and jumping by the Eugene Ballet as they present the beautiful ballet Swan Lake! Swan Lake is one of the most famous of all ballets, and one that many hold near and dear as their favorite of all the ballets. 

Swan Lake will be presented at 3 PM by Festival Dance and Performing Arts at the Beasley Coliseum in Pullman Washington.

Pullman Washington and Moscow Idaho are merely miles from each other.  Both are host to their respective universities, Washington State University for Pullman and the University of Idaho for Moscow.  Living in Pullman and so near Moscow, we are fortunate to have two universities and all their associated events to provide a wealth of cultural events. 

It is soon approaching time for our sister city, Moscow, to hold it's annual Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival hosted by the University of Idaho.  This three day event brings in students and performers both nationally and internationally providing a great three days of fantastic Jazz that just can't be beat!

The Jazz Festival had it's humble beginning in 1967 with a few dozen student groups and one guest artist.  The festival went on to new heights in 1981 when the famous Ella Fitzgerald graced the stage.  Can you imagine what an event that would have been!

In 1984 Lionel Hampton, inspired by the enthusiasm of all the students, took an active role in our festival and in 1985 the Festival took on his name, the Lionel Hampton National Jazz Festival. 

Our Festival has since gown to an international level with nearly 80 musicians from 30 countries performing as well as students both from the states and internationally coming to our competition. Thus, the name was changed to the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival to reflect our new international status!

A basic building block to the Jazz Festival is the Jazz in the Schools program which had it's beginning in 1995.  This special program takes the show on the road in Northern Idaho and Eastern Washington to introduce students to this truly American art form known as Jazz. 

The Festival takes place in Moscow Idaho on Wednesday February 25th through Saturday February 28th from 8 PM to 11 PM. No doubt, it will have your toes tappin and your fingers snappin...

Pullman WA Parks ~ Part Three:  Reaney Park

Reaney Park is located in downtown Pullman.  It is one of Pullman's oldest parks and was established in 1914.  The mature trees that grace this wonderful gathering place were planted in 1915. 

Reaney Park is also the home of our outdoor swimming pool.  It also has an extensive play area for children.

Reaney Park is host to the Reaney Park Concert Series on Summer evenings.  What a great way to enjoy a warm summer evening! 

Reaney Park is also home to our National Lentil Festival which takes place in the Fall, usually the weekend after our students come back for Fall Semester at Washington State University (WSU).  Friday night kicks off the festivities with our giant pot of Lentil Chili and booths set up with a wide range of activities and vendors in downtown Pullman. 

The highlight of Saturday for the children has to be the Lentil Parade which, fortunate for us at Beasley Realty, comes right in front of our office. I love watching the Parade and watching the little ones taking it all in. The parade ends at Reaney Park where again we have vendors and booths that provide a good time for all.  Seeing friends, family and neighbors at Reaney Park is part of what makes Pullman such a special place to live.

The Pullman-Moscow Bill Chipman Trail ~ A Great Way to Enjoy the Great Outdoors ~ by Lori Cofer, REALTOR "Your Pullman Real Estate Connection."

Outdoor activities are one of the things that makes living in Pullman Washington a great place to live.  There are always lots of outdoor activities to do in and around Pullman. 

One of the great things to do is to get out on a nice day and go for a walk or bike ride.    It refreshes both the body and soul.   Pullman has a trail for you to do just that!  It is called the Bill Chipman Palouse Trail.   It  is a seven mile long paved trail located along Highway 270 that connects Pullman Washington with Moscow Idaho.   

The trail provides an ideal place for walking, biking and rollerblading.  And of course, there are benches scattered a long the way providing great places to rest or just to sit and relax.  Or maybe you are thinking about an impromptu picnic?

Do get out and enjoy the great outdoors.  It is one of the fantastic benefits of living in the Great Northwest!.  The access points for the Trail are in Pullman on Bishop Boulevard behind the Quality Inn and in Moscow across from the Palouse Mall. 

So why not make a day of it on the next beautiful day?  Grab the bikes, skates or walking shoes and head out on the Trail!    And at the end of your journey, do stop in and get acquainted with our sister city, Moscow Idaho.

Pullman WA Residents Gather Together to Send Valentine's to Support Their Local National Guardsman!

Rebecca Schwartz, one of the organizers for the rally to send care packages to our troops during deployment sent me an email thanking all who supported the December 6th troop support party.  Due to the efforts of Pullman residents from young to old stockings were stuffed, Christmas cards were written resulting in approximately two dozen Christmas care packages to make their holiday brighter.

I have personally received emails from the guys in the field as a result and I can't tell you how much they appreciate being thought of...not to mention the fact that they love all the goodies and chocolate!  

There will be another rally to support our National Guardsman on Saturday, January 17th at the Whitman Senior Living Community Center from 1:30-3:30.  The theme will be Valentine's Day. So please feel free to join in on the fun and send some Valentines and maybe some sweets to our troops!  You will enjoy it!  So will they!  Supplies are provided or you can bring your own too!  The more the merrier!  Speaking of the more the merrier, bring someone to join the fun!
